As We Approach Martin Luther King's birthday...

Considering the recent politically motivated killings in Tucson I think the following words by Dr. King are appropriate. This is a distinction between good and evil, not necessarily aimed at one politica party or another. There are evil people everywhere. However, I'm certain that there are many more good people on each side of a dispute than those who may be deemed evil by society.

"When evil men (and women) plot,
good men (and women) plan.

When evil men (and women) burn and bomb,
good men (and women) must build and bind.

When evil men (and women) shout ugly words of hatred,
good men (and women) commit themselves to the glories of love.

Where evil men (and women) would seek to perpetuate an unjust status quo,
good men (and women) must seek to bring into being a real order of justice."
- Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Life is NOT tough all over!

So, my sweet young 'friends' you think life is tough, consider.....

Homemade incubator saves Kenyan infant lives
An incubator designed by a traditional birth attendant and herbalist in a slum in Nairobi, Kenya, has been saving the lives of infants for some 20 years. Alice Sibour uses pillows, blankets, hot water containers and a mosquito net to reduce premature deaths in a country where some 55 out of 1,000 newborns do not survive. CNN (1/11)

Squatter slums around Baghdad subsist on garbage economy
In the Iraqi capital, men are turning to nocturnal scavenging in light of the flagging economy. They are collecting and selling cans, scrap metal and garbage to support their families. "People here are living on garbage and animals," said a middleman in the midsize Naser City, a squatter settlement that subsists largely on the underground refuse economy.
